Capillary Membrane Oxygenators (CMOs) require accurate and repeatable in vitro testing to validate their performance. However, using natural blood for these tests introduces significant complexity, high cost, and logistical challenges related to supply and stability. This project established a novel, non-blood-based method by developing and simulating the use of a modified sulfite solution as a chemically reliable and stable fluid substitute for testing CMO performance. The objective was to create a simple, repeatable system to benchmark oxygenator efficiency and simplify the development of future devices.
