Synthesis and Characterization of ZIF-90 Metal-Organic Framework as a Drug Delivery System for Sustained Release of Ciprofloxacin in Ocular Infections
Graphical Abstract
Project Overview
Post-operative ocular infections remain a significant challenge, often requiring frequent administration of antibiotics. This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of ZIF-90 Metal-Organic Frameworks as a high-capacity nanocarrier for the sustained release of Ciprofloxacin. By leveraging the tunable porosity and biocompatibility of ZIF-90, the proposed system aims to provide a controlled, long-term therapeutic concentration of the drug at the infection site, thereby improving clinical outcomes, reducing the dosing frequency, and minimizing ocular irritation associated with conventional drops.
